High School Fight, Retail Theft, Fraud: Oswego Police Log

Here's what Oswego police have been up to over Veterans' Day weekend.

OSWEGO, IL — Oswego police released reports of their activity between Friday, Nov. 9 and Saturday, Nov. 10. There were several retail theft cases, a fraud report and a fight at Oswego High School.

Arrests listed below are not implications of guilt.

On Friday, Nov. 9, police received a report of a Nov. 2 retail theft from a business in the 2300 block of Rt. 34. The amount stolen was $1,000, police said.

On Friday, Nov. 9, around 2:30 p.m., two juveniles got into a fight at Oswego High School, police say. One was a boy, age unknown, the other was a 14-year-old girl.

On Friday, Nov. 9, around 5 p.m., police took are port of fraud at a location in the 2300 block of Rt. 34.

On Friday, Nov. 9, around 6:30 p.m., two men walked into the Kohls at 2500 Rt. 34, removed tags from clothing and went into the fitting room, police say. They then left the store with the merchandise, police said in the report. One suspect was described as a tall, skinny black man. The other was described as a tall, heavy black man around age 30. The report says they stole $141.01 in merchandise.

On Saturday, Nov. 10, around 6 p.m., Deja Jones, 21, and Johnifah Smith, 19, both of Chicago, are alleged to have committed retail theft alongside resisting and obstructing a peace officer. They're accused of stealing $1,131.37 from Kohls in the 2500 block of Rt. 34. They were detained at the Kendall County Jail and are expected in court on Dec. 11.

On Saturday, Nov. 10, soon before 11 a.m., police pulled over James Hurley, 53, of Oswego, for speeding. Police said they discovered Hurley is required to use a Breath Alcohol Ignition Interlock Device, but did not have one. He was release on scene on his own recognizance.
