Hilltop Garden Club begins the new year with an expert on orchids

Growing Your Orchids Successfully!

The January 12 Hilltop Gardeners meeting will feature a program by orchid expert, Don White, owner of Anything Orchids in Lemont. “Growing Your Orchids Successfully” will address the conditions that are important to know to grow orchids successfully, such as lighting, watering and repotting, as well as to correct orchid growing fallacies. White, a retired teacher, is a well-known expert on the growth and care of orchids, having raised them for thirty years. He often teaches master gardeners about orchids and shows his unique collections each year at the Chicago Flower and Garden Show and other area events. He is a member of the Batavia, Illinois and American Orchid Societies.

The club meets on the second Thursday of each month from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Little White School Museum, 72 Polk Street in Oswego. Everyone is invited to attend. There is no fee and reservations are not required. Mr. White’s orchids will be available for purchase at the meeting. For more information, email vgierhart@aol.com.
