OSWEGO, IL — Sometimes, Oswego police will find a lost animal around town and work to return it to its owner. On Wednesday, it wasn't a lost dog or cat officers found — it was a small white pony.

Around 4:55 a.m., Oswego police received a call that a pony was out and about near the intersection of Harvey Road and Treasure Drive before it started galloping north toward Route 34, Cathy Nevara, the department's spokesperson, told Patch.

"We couldn't believe the call about a horse galloping out and about at 5am today but sure enough this little lady was found horsin' around outside of her pasture," police said in a Facebook post.

A community member soon found the horse in the 400 block of Treasure Drive and stayed with it until police arrived. Once there, Officer Chad Dickey was able to lasso the pony and safely reunite it with its owner, officials said.
