Kendall County Detective Named Investigator of the Year
Detective Byron Maggos won the award for his work in a murder-for-hire investigation.

YORKVILLE, IL — The investigation of a murder-for-hire incident at the Kendall County Jail has landed detective Byron Maggos the title of Investigator of the Year.
The award was presented May 6 at the 31st Annual Respect for Law Banquet held at Ridge Golf Club in Yorkville.
According to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, an inmate in the jail was allegedly soliciting the murder of an acquaintance. Maggos was assigned as the lead investigator at the sheriff’s office.

On March 8, 2016, the Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Daniel E. Perkins, a 40-year-old Oswego man, with solicitation of murder for hire, solicitation of murder and conspiracy to commit witness intimidation.

Throughout the investigation, Maggos was not only interested in collecting the facts to investigate the crime but also to protect the victim and the community he serves as a whole, the sheriff’s office said. Maggos worked with other investigators from the sheriff’s office and investigators from the Oswego Police Department.
“This guardian mentality drives Detective Maggos everyday and his work on this case is an example of teamwork with a focus aimed at safeguarding the community,” said Deputy Mike Mrozek in a press release. “Detective Maggos is the type of person that residents of Kendall County deserve in a law enforcement officer.”
The Annual Respect for Law Banquet is an annual event where Kendall County law enforcement personnel receive awards and recognition for their efforts. The event was sponsored by Kendall County Association of Chiefs of Police and the Oswegoland Optimist Club.
