Sheriff Baird Honors Kendall County Volunteers
Kendall County, IL (April 23, 2021, 3:45 PM)
In honor of 2021 National Volunteer Week, April 18th-24th, Sheriff Baird would like to recognize the volunteers who commit themselves to the betterment of our community.
The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office Jail is assisted by volunteers who selflessly donate approximately 1,732 hours each year providing programs such as Aunt Mary’s Story Book bible studies, church, and, Alcoholics Anonymous to the inmates of the Kendall County Jail. “The programs run by the volunteers help the inmates make connections with resources that will help them succeed upon their release from jail”, said Sheriff Dwight Baird.
Auxiliary Deputies are a sworn, uniformed division providing supplemental services to the Sheriff’s Office in times when extra manpower is needed, such as special traffic details, search and rescue operations, traffic control, and crowd control are needed. In the 1st quarter of 2021, the 14 Auxiliary Deputies donated 380 hours of their time to the citizens of Kendall County.
The Kendall County Emergency Management Agency (KCEMA) members are involved during periods of disaster or major emergencies in Kendall County. KCEMA is the primary liaison and coordinating agency to the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). KCEMA also works with the National Weather Service and Northern Illinois multi-county SKYWARN, a volunteer program with between 350,000 and 400,000 trained severe weather spotters, to identify severe weather situations. KCEMA volunteers have provided 742 hours of service for the 1st quarter of 2021, and an additional 385 hours at COVID vaccination sites.
“These volunteers are invaluable to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office and are instrumental in the efficient operation of the Sheriff’s Office. When they are called upon, they respond, without hesitation, to ensure the safety of our community no matter the situation”, said Sheriff Baird.
