Letter to the Editor: Property Tax Rally on Friday

This is a reminder that this coming Friday, July 13, a Tax Rally will be held at the Hudson Crossing Park and Bridge located on Harrison Street near Route 34.  It will begin at Noon and end at 8:00p.m.

All residents of Kendall County are encouraged to stop by and learn what they can do to lower the assessments on their homes and properties and also seek lower tax rates imposed by the taxing bodies of local government.

We will have samples to show the simple steps to appealing your assessment and now is the time to start the process….Don’t wait. It’s much easier when you start early and build a file with all your facts to win a reduction in assessment.  Often your cost is zero dollars.

With real estate taxes at 9.68823 percent (almost 10 percent), it is time to ask WHY?

Our elected officials have a fiduciary  responsibility to look out for our best interests, but seems we need to get involved and see what can be done to lessen this heavy financial burden which is causing our neighbors to lose their homes.

We have heard that many of our seniors must choose between paying their real estate taxes or buying their medicine. A home should serve its occupants, not the other way around. But with the high cost of taxes, resident have to work extra jobs just to pay these taxes.

Together we can work to rein in unnecessary spending and stop the waste in government. We need to form groups to follow the money. Can be done. It is all up to us. We need to work together.
