Bus Driver Shortage Forces Remote Learning In D308 Tuesday

District officials said most students will learn remotely due to absent bus drivers Tuesday morning.

OSWEGO, IL — Classes for most Oswego School District 308 students will be held remotely Tuesday due to a large number of bus driver absences, district officials announced Tuesday morning.

Since staff can't accommodate transportation for all students, junior high and high school buildings aren't open for attendance. Students are expected to log in to Google classroom during their normal class times, and teachers will post meeting links for student-teacher interaction. Staff is still expected to report to school buildings, officials said.

It's unknown if there will be normal bus service by Wednesday. District staff didn't respond to Patch's request for comment at the time of publication.

Elementary schools are still open for in-person attendance at normal times, but buses are expected to run late. Student absences will also be excused due to the shortage, officials said.

Students who attend District 308 school through out-of-district placement will still attend regular, in-person school since their transportation is not impacted.

Classes for early learning were canceled, except for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing program. GOAL and Transition/Pathway Program students will learn remotely Tuesday.

District staff said a message will be sent later Tuesday regarding school junior high and high school extracurricular activities.
