'Mentally Unfit' Man Allegedly Threatened to Kill State Toll Chairman

The 57-year-old Oswego man reportedly has a legal history with Robert J. Schillerstrom stretching back to 2010.

A 57-year-old Oswego man doesn’t seem to care too much for Illinois State Toll Highway Authority board chairman Robert J. Schillerstrom.

James P. Conroy, of the 500 block of Chestnut Drive in Oswego, allegedly called Schillerstrom’s home intending to threaten to kill him.

But why just tell the proposed victim? Conroy also called the Naperville Police Department and told it of his plans, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Apparently this isn’t the first or even second time Conroy has gotten involved in Schillerstrom’s life. In May 2011, Conroy was sentenced to 180 days in jail for aggravated driving with a revoked license third offense or more. He was also ordered to have “no contact of any kind with any member of the Robert Schillerstrom family,” according to records obtained by the Tribune.

Although the incident happened in 2010, Conroy was declared mentally unfit to stand trial, which was later reversed.

But wait, there’s more.

Conroy again contacted Schillerstrom later in October 2011, violating a conditional discharge. Conroy was again found unfit to stand trial, but was sentenced Oct. 19, 2012 after being found fit once more. He was re-sentenced to six months in jail and given a year of probation, according to the tribune.

For this latest offense, Conroy has been charged with two felony counts of telephone harassment. He is being held on a $1 million bail.
