Mock Heart Attack Drill Held at Oswego Water Park
The rescuers had zero knowledge beforehand that a drill would be performed.

OSWEGO, IL — A mock drill for a person having a heart attack was performed Aug. 3 at the Civic Center Aquatic Park in Oswego.
The rescuers had zero knowledge beforehand that a drill would be performed, according to Oswego Fire Protection District EMS Coordinator Matthew R. Goodbred. The drill occurred during business hours while patrons were using the pool.
“The Oswegoland Park District lifeguards recognized the situation and responded in an exemplary fashion. There was a smooth transition of treatment to the Oswego Fire Protection District personnel once they arrived on the scene,” Goodbred said in a news release. “Transfer of care to Emergency staff at Rush Copley Medical Center was accomplished efficiently and effectively. All aspects of patient care exceeded expectations, delivering optimal care while increasing the survivability of the patient involved.”

Hosting trainings and partnering with different agencies in drills like this allows each agency to get familiar with working hand-in-hand with each other, Goodbred said. Trainings like this help to highlight the signs and symptoms of a heart attack while educating all on how to perform lifesaving acts.
