Mother's Day is a day set aside to honor the women that gave birth to us and those that have stepped in to fill the shoes or add to the shoes of our biological mothers. I was fortunate enough to be born to a woman who has spent her life as a mother devoting herself to me and my younger brother. She is an incredible wife, an educated senior accountant, and a mom who loves with everything she is. Life wasn't easy for her, not in the slightest bit, still isn't, but day in and day out she fights for herself, for her family, for everything we have today. Any normal person would have broken down and given up by now but, somehow, she stands strong and we are able to stand strong right beside her because of the examples she sets. My mom was always considered "mean and tough" by my friends because she was teaching us a great work ethic with appropriate chores. She put strong emphasis on education and my brother and I are doing very well after graduating. She taught us to always strive for more and to never give up. She was there every step of the way, leading by example. We had rules, we were taught to earn things, we were shown and taught to respect and treat people as individuals for how they treat us. We got grounded. We had fights with her. But in the end, she was right 99% of the time. She showed us such unconditional love. We had an amazing childhood of trips, time spent talking and laughing, crafts, games, lessons (learning to ride a bike) , getting through the heartbreak and tears, etc. And for everything she did, the very way she was, I am eternally grateful. I am the independent, strong, dedicated woman I am today because of how she raised me. She is now a grandma to my first born, now 2 years old, and she's even better with him than she was with me. I didn't think that was possible. For Goodness sake, she even took a special place in the hearts of my husband and my step-son. My mom has my back, and I will forever have hers. She is my best friend and in so many ways my role model. I wish everyone could be so lucky to have a mom like mine. I say this a lot but, mom, Thank you for everything you are and everything you have been to us and for us. May this day and every other show you how special you are. You deserve it, and more.
Love,
Basia and Kubuś
