New Mexican Restaurant Coming to Oswego

Salsa Verde is set to open sometime in the fall of 2015

A new restaurant is coming to Oswego but it may be one you’re already familiar with.

Salsa Verde, which has locations in Yorkville, St. Charles and Indiana, will be opening sometime in the fall of 2015 at the former Panera Bread location at the Oswego Commons shopping center in the 2900 block of Route 34.

Carlos Arechiga, who works at the Yorkville location and is part of the family-run business, said they’ve just signed the lease and only got a hold of the key last week.

Salsa Verde offers fast, casual dining and authentic Mexican cuisine.

According to Arechiga, opening a new location is something they’ve heard from customers in the past.

“A lot of people had been telling us we should come a little bit east,” Arechiga said. “For a while, it was just like, ‘Yeah, that’d be nice. Once we start planning on expanding we can look at that.’ It wasn’t until this past spring that we started scouting for possible locations.”

Arechiga said they were looking at locations in Aurora and Batavia before they decided on Oswego.

“This one was going to be a perfect fit,” Arechiga said. “It’s a bigger location than we’re used to as far as space.”

While the Yorkville location only has room for around 90 people, Arechiga said he hopes to be able to double that at the Oswego store.
