New soccer club Chicago Rush holding open tryouts in May

Chicago Rush, a new competitive soccer club in the Oswego area, will hold open tryouts for kids ages 6 through high school in May.

OSWEGO — A new youth soccer club in the Oswego area will host tryouts for the 2017-18 season in May at Prairie Fest Park in Oswego.

Chicago Rush is a new competitive soccer club that will field teams for boys and girls from the age of 6 up through high school. The club is an affiliate of the national Rush Soccer organization, the largest youth soccer organization in the world.

Michael Cockroft, executive director for the club, said Chicago Rush will provide new opportunities for youth soccer players in the area to develop their technical skills, tactical knowledge of the game and compete at a higher level than they have before.

Chicago Rush will provide an elite soccer program that allows players to maximize their enjoyment and understanding of the game as well as the training to improve their technique and skill.

“This is an amazing program to be part of, and we are very excited to share this opportunity with Oswego and surrounding communities,” Cockroft said. “Our professional and experienced staff have a love and knowledge of the game that will be infectious to the kids and teams they coach.”

This year, being an affiliate of Rush, players have already seen many benefits, including opportunities to play on select, State Cup and showcase teams for tournaments as well as traveling to Rush National Select tryouts with other players from across the globe.

The club’s tryout sessions will be at Prairie Fest Park, 91 Plank Drive in Oswego. Tryout sessions are based on a player’s age and gender and are scheduled as follows:

  • Girls born between 1999 and 2003 (U15 to 19) will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. May 7.
  • Boys born between 2008 and 2011 (U7 to U10) will be from 5 to 6:15 p.m. May 15 and 16.
  • Boys born between 2003 and 2007 (U11 and U15) will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m.May 15 and 16.
  • Boys born between 1999 and 2003 (U15 and U19) will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. May 15 and 16.
  • Girls born between 2008 and 2001 (U7 to U10) will be from 5 to 6:15 p.m. May 20 and 21.
  • Girls born between 2003 and 2007 (U11 to U15) will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. May 20 and 21.

Athletes are expected to attend all scheduled tryouts for their age group and should bring shin guards and a water bottle.
