No Drivers Injured In 3-Car Crash Sunday: Oswego Police

The cars, driven by Montgomery and Aurora residents, collided at the intersection of Fifth Street and Route 34 Sunday afternoon.

OSWEGO, IL — No drivers were injured in the three-car crash that happened near Route 34 and Fifth Avenue in Oswego Sunday afternoon, according to police.

Police were on the scene of the crash around 4:35 p.m. Sunday after three cars collided.

According to the preliminary investigation, a Hyundai Elantra — driven by a 22-year-old man from Aurora — was driving west into the left-turn lane on Route 34 while a Nissan Altima, driven by a 26-year-old man from Montgomery, was traveling east in the right lane on Route 34.

Both cars were driving on green lights, according to police.

While the two cars were driving, the third car involved in the crash, a Kia Soul driven by a 48-year-old woman from Aurora, was stopped at a red light in the northbound right-turn lane on Fifth Street, according to police.

While the Hyundai began making a left turn as the light turned yellow, police said the Nissan also began to proceed into the intersection when the cars' left bumpers collided, officials said.

After the initial collision, the Nissan continued moving and eventually hit the front bumper of the Kia, Oswego Police Department spokesperson Cathy Nevara told Patch.

The road was shut down for about an hour and a half while police investigated, according to Nevara.
