Oswego Board Considers Video Gaming At Gas Stations
Over the years, village staff say they have received numerous requests for video gaming in gas stations.
OSWEGO, IL - Oswego residents may soon be able to fill up their gas tanks and win some cash in the process by playing video games. That's because village board trustees are considering a measure that would amend village code to allow video gaming at gas stations.
On May 7, 2013, the board approved video gaming in Oswego. However, village code only allows for establishments that hold a valid Class A, C, D, E or G liquor license to apply for video gaming. According to the Illinois Gaming Board, video gaming is legal almost anywhere as long as the location holds an on-premise liquor license.
Over the years, village staff say they have received numerous requests for video gaming in gas stations, however, the majority of the previous village board members were reportedly not interested in extending video gaming licenses to gas stations.

In discussions with Village Board President Troy Parlier, village officials say staff has been directed to move forward with discussions to allow video gaming in gas stations. Currently, however, the village does not have a liquor classification that would allow a gas station to have on-site consumption of alcohol; a new liquor classification would need to be created.
Village leaders say they are currently working to address two issues: 1. Whether to move forward with allowing video gaming at gas stations; and 2. direction from the village board as to which liquor classification should be brought forward for approval.

Once trustees approve the measure, Oswego officials told WSPY News that they expect many applicants. However, three steps must take place before gambling can happen at Oswego gas stations. First, the village must approve a liquor license, then the state and village sign off on the gaming license.
The board is expected to vote on the issue at its next meeting on Nov. 19, 2019. To learn more about the proposed amendment, visit this link.
