Oswego Drug Dealer Gets 6 Years for Selling Heroin

He delivered the drugs to an undercover agent.

OSWEGO, IL — A 28-year-old Oswego man will spend the next six years in prison for dealing heroin and other drugs to an undercover agent.

James P. Vartiak, of the 0-100 block of Chippewa, was sentenced to six years in prison for unlawful delivery of a controlled substance. The incidents that lead to his arrest occurred in January and February of this year when Vartiak delivered heroin and other controlled substances to an individual working with the Kendall County Cooperative Police Assistance Team. Vartiak delivered controlled substances, including heroin, on three separate occasions.

Kendall County State’s Attorney Eric Weis said that Vartiak was on parole for another drug delivery offense when he was arrested on these charges. Vartiak received an 8 year prison sentence but requested and completed impact incarceration (Boot Camp) with IDOC.

“Mr. Vartiak requested he be placed in a facility with the Department of Corrections to deal with his substance abuse issues. While he has requested and received treatment on prior occasions, Vartiak continues to sell drugs to those within our community,” Weis said in a news release. “Hopefully, this sentence, with treatment, will help Mr. Vartiak become a productive member of society upon his release.”

Vartiak will be required to serve 2 years of mandatory supervised release after he serves his six year prison sentence.
