Oswego East Students Attend Iowa Caucus
Students attended both the Republican and Democratic Caucuses to see how they work.

OSWEGO, IL — A group of 52 students from Oswego East High School (OEHS) traveled to Iowa City, Iowa to participate in activities associated with the Iowa Caucus on Monday, Feb. 1.
Students from the OEHS Government Club and the AP US Government and Politics classes were able to observe campaigning activities from multiple candidates, as well as meet with students from West High School in Iowa City to learn more about the process.

Cary Covington, a professor from the University of Iowa met with OEHS students to discuss the history and unique process that is our nation’s first indicator of presidential politics. In the evening, students attended both Republican and Democratic Caucuses in Johnson County, to observe and learn first-hand how this event works.
This event was coordinated as part of the national Mikva Challenge Elections program. It was an eventful day, and these students were able to see civics in action!
