Oswego Gas Station Fails Tobacco Compliance Check

Compliance checks were done at seven businesses on Tuesday. One failed.

OSWEGO, IL — As part of the first of three rounds of tobacco compliance checks at local businesses, the Kendall County Sheriff's Office conducted surveillance at seven tobacco retailers in the county on Tuesday. Six businesses passed the check, but one — Citgo gas station in the 2500 block of Light Road, Oswego — was found to be in violation of Illinois tobacco laws.

The sheriff's office said the cashier at Citgo was cited for unlawful sale of tobacco to a minor, a petty offense.

The compliance checks are performed to determine if local tobacco retailers are complying with state minimum age tobacco laws which prohibit the sale of tobacco to persons under the age of 18.
