Oswego HS Mock Crash Shows Reality of Drinking, Driving

The scenario was streamed live on Facebook and received more than 28,000 views.

OSWEGO, IL — Oswego High School (OHS) recently conducted an “Operation Prom” crash site scenario to demonstrate the immediate effects of drinking and driving.

“Operation Prom” took place at 8:15 a.m. in the parking lot at OHS. Juniors and seniors attended the event. It was also streamed on Facebook Live and received over 28,000 views.

Students, parents and first responders created the crash site scene to represent the horrors that could result from such accidents.

Jennifer Wikoff, assistant director of district student services for Community Unit School District 308, helped plan and organize the successful event.

“This took a lot of planning from the school, local and state law enforcement, the fire protection district and other agencies,” Wikoff explained. “School District 308 is fortunate to have strong partnerships with each of them.”

The agencies that participated in the event included:

  • Oswego Fire Department
  • Oswego Police Department
  • Kendall County Sheriff’s Office
  • Kendall County Coroner
  • Illinois State Police
  • Superior Air Medics
