Oswego Man Found Guilty Of Child Sex Assault: State's Attorney
Evidence spanning 2015 to 2017 showed Mark A. Hampton, 48, sexually assaulted a child younger than 13 years old, a Kane County judge found.

OSWEGO, IL — A 48-year-old Oswego man was found guilty of sexually abusing a child younger than 13 years old, the Kane County State's Attorney's Office said Thursday.
Assistant State's Attorneys Lori Schmidt and Stacey Wittman presented evidence they said showed Mark A. Hampton sexually assaulted the child, whom he knew, between November 2015 and August 2017. A Kane County jury convicted Hampton, of the 600 block of Mansfield Way, of four counts of the Class X felony.
Kane County Circuit Judge Donald M. Tegeler Jr. presided over the case and set the man's next court appearance for 10 a.m. on Dec. 21, when he will face motions and sentencing. Hampton is looking at a prison sentence between 12 and 120 years at the Illinois Department of Corrections, prosecutors said.

"A lot of people came to the rescue of this young child when she disclosed her abuse," Assistant State's Attorney Lori Schmidt said in a statement. "Thanks to the family member who immediately took her to the hospital, to the sexual assault nurse at AMITA Health Mercy Medical Center Aurora, who contacted the authorities, and to former Child Advocacy Center Investigator Christine Tunney, who led the thorough investigation and who took time out of her retirement to testify at this trial. Thanks also to CAC victim advocate Julie Pohlman and the rest of the CAC staff for their support."
