Oswego Police Advise Residents on Solicitation Scam

Police are not currently soliciting donations of any kind.

Residents receiving phone calls from people claiming to be soliciting donations for the Oswego Police Department and Oswego Police Unions are the subjects of a phone scam.

“Oswego police are not currently soliciting donations of any kind,” police said in a Facebook post. “Anyone who receives a call or email from these solicitors should not provide any personal or financial information. It is best to just hang up or not respond.”

Police are reminding the public to not provide any personal information such as bank accounts, PIN numbers or social security numbers over the phone or Internet without confirming that the person asking is legitimate.
