Oswego Police To Be Assessed For State-Of-The-Art Standards

As part of the process, Oswego residents can provide comments on the police department's CALEA standards at an information session Aug. 10.

OSWEGO, IL — The Oswego Police Department has been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies since 2005, and to continue, it will be undergoing an on-site assessment the week of Aug. 9.

The nationally recognized program is voluntary and verifies if police departments meet strict professional standards. Through the program, the Oswego Police Department is examined to make sure aspects of the department’s policy and procedures, administration, operations and support services adhere to the state-of-the-art standards.

As part of the process, Oswego residents can provide comments at a public information session at 5 p.m. Aug. 10. The session will be held via Zoom in the police department's Community Room, at 3355 Woolley Road.

Agency employees and the public can also give comments to the assessment team by calling 630-551-7300 between 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 9.

Calls and comments at the informational sessions are limited to 10 minutes and have to address the department's ability to comply with CALEA's standards, officials said in a news release.
