Oswego Police To Offer Self Defense Classes To Women
The course is meant to help outgoing seniors "be more aware in their everyday lives and to have the self-confidence to defend themselves."
OSWEGO, IL — The Oswego Police Department will offer a self-defense class to high school women who were part of Oswego High School and Oswego East High School's Class of 2022 .
The course is scheduled to take place from 9 a.m. to noon July 18 at the department's Public Safety Campus, 3355 Woolley Road. Police said the program is meant to educate and prepare outgoing seniors "to be more aware in their everyday lives and to have the self-confidence to defend themselves in any environment," police said.
The course is limited to 20 participants who need to be at least 16 years old. Applications can be found on the police department's website, and participants will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis.

Sign-ups open at 5 p.m. Wednesday and will close July 13.
On the day of the training, people participating are asked to wear workout-type clothing and no jewelry. The course includes physical exertion, so police said people with pre-existing injuries should consult their doctors before joining.

Participants will be required to sign a waiver of liability ahead of attending, and people under 18 years of age will be required to have a parent or legal guardian also sign the waiver.
