Oswego Police Thanksgiving Enforcement Will Start This Week
Officers will once again participate in a "Click It or Ticket" campaign to make sure roads are safe around the Thanksgiving holiday.
OSWEGO, IL — Thanksgiving is less than two weeks out, which means Oswego police are getting ready to kick off another "Click It or Ticket" campaign.
Officers will step up patrols and seat belt enforcement zones starting Friday and lasting through Nov. 28 as a way to reduce car crashes and their resulting injuries and fatalities, officials said Monday. Illinois has an average seat belt usage rate of 93 percent, according to statistics from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
"As millions of motorists hit the road to celebrate Thanksgiving, Illinois law enforcement will be working around the clock to make sure holiday travelers are buckled up and driving safely," officials said in a news release.

Ahead of the holiday, police provided a few tips for those celebrating:
- Plan for a sober ride home before you go out.
- If you’ve been drinking or using marijuana or other drugs, call a taxi, take mass transit or call a family member to get you home safely.
- Use your favorite ride-share services, such as Uber or Lyft, or public transportation.
- If you see a drunk driver, pull over safely and call 911.
- Make sure everyone in your vehicle wears their seat belt. It is the best defense against an impaired driver.
