Oswego Robotics, FRC Team 2338 Qualifies for 2018 Championship
"Gear It Forward" team from Oswego/Oswego East High Schools wins Engineering Inspiration Award from NASA
FIRST Central Illinois Regional Robotics Competition (Peoria)
Oswego, IL (March 21, 2018) — FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition team, “Gear it Forward”2338, has earned a spot at the FIRST Championships for 4th year in a row. The championship is to be held in Detroit, MI April 25-28.
The team won the prestigious Engineering Inspiration Award which celebrates outstanding success in advancing respect and appreciation for engineering within a team’s school or organization and community. Including efforts to recruit students to engineering, community outreach efforts, a commitment to science and technology education among the team, school, and community and the team is not strictly concentrated on the build and competition season. Earning the award qualifies the team for the Championship in Detroit and the entry fee is sponsored by NASA.

In addition, the team fielded a very strong robot (named “Chef”) during competition and finished in 9th place in the qualification rounds. The team was selected as the first choice of the 5th seeded alliance led by team 2081 “Icarus” out of Peoria. The alliance made it to the semi-final round where they lost to the first seeded alliance which won the entire tournament.
Students from Oswego East and Oswego High Schools make up this team.

The teams are sponsored by Community Unit School District 308, Caterpillar, Navistar, Molex, TE Connectivity, HQC Inc. “Zoomie Boy” Fabrication, the Kiwanis Club of Oswego, Johnson Controls, Valley Honda, State Farm , V3 and Eatza Pizza.
