Oswego Senior Center Unveils New Space At Former Police Station

OSWEGO, IL — The former police station on Route 34 will be the new home to the Oswego Senior Center, executives announced Thursday. The facility, located at 3525 Route 34 in Oswego, will open to seniors for programming, classes and other opportunities March 1.

The nonprofit organization that serves seniors in the area lost its lease with Oswego Community Unit School District 308 in July 2020, so executives began partnering with local groups to continue their programming.

While staff explored options for new facilities, in-person activities have been held at Church of the Brethren, 155 Boulder Hill Pass in Montgomery, where January and February programming will continue. The Route 34 facility will provide an "excellent space for current programs and [offer] immense opportunities for future growth," according to a news release.

The building, empty since Oswego police moved headquarters in October 2018, requires cleaning, which will happen next month along with the moving process.

In addition to a new facility, the nonprofit is also rebranding by unveiling a new name: the Oswegoland Senior and Community Center. The change, according to Wallin Hamlin, president of the OSI Board of Directors, is meant to be "inclusive of our entire community to broaden services and programming potential."

Rounding out the updates is an updated logo — resembling an infinity sign — to go with the expanded moniker.
