Tobacco Compliance Check: Wrong Oswego Shop Named By Cops
A press release earlier this week misnamed the store cited for failing a compliance check.

OSWEGO, IL — Last week, the Kendall County Sheriff's Office completed the second of three local compliance checks on all tobacco retailers in unincorporated Kendall County. A total of seven retailers were inspected and six were found to be in compliance with Illinois tobacco laws.
One store, however, was not in compliance. Police said a cashier at Oswego Food Mart, located in the 100 block of Light Road, was cited for unlawful sale of tobacco to a minor.
A press release from the Kendall County Sheriff's Office earlier this week named a different store.

"A typographical error resulted in the misnaming of the business cited for unlawful sale of tobacco to a minor," the sheriff's office said in an update. "Please see below for an updated press release with the correct information. The release has also been corrected on our website. We apologize for the inconvenience."
Police called the citation a "petty offense."

The compliance checks are performed to determine if local tobacco retailers are complying with state minimum age tobacco laws which prohibit the sale of tobacco to persons under the age of 18.
With the help from a grant awarded by the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) “Kids Can’t Buy ‘Em Here” Tobacco Enforcement Program, Kendall County Sheriff’s Office Community Policing Deputies educate tobacco retailers in unincorporated Kendall County on minimum age tobacco laws and the importance of verifying the age of customers before selling age restrictive products such as tobacco.
