Oswego Student to Perform as 'Gertrude McFuzz' in Seussical the Musical

Oswego's own Sophie Hauser to Perform as 'Gertrude McFuzz' in this weekends Spotlight Youth Theater's musical production of Seussical.

This weekend, Sophie Hauser will be playing one of the lead roles in Spotlight Youth Theater’s production of Seussical Junior! Being in the Spotlight is nothing new to Sophie. She has performed in 27 productions, 21 of which have been with Spotlight Youth Theater of Aurora. At the young age of 6, Sophie’s very first musical was in fact Seussical Junior. Back then she performed with her older sister, Lucy Hauser. This time Sophie is performing Seussical with her younger brother, Gus Hauser.

In this musical, Sophie brings to life the role of Gertrude McFuzz. Gertrude is a young bird who has her sites set on her neighbor, Horton the Elephant, who she likes because of his kind and powerful heart. When asked what Sophie enjoys about playing the role of Gertrude McFuzz, she said, “I like Gertrude because of her determination, her quirkiness, and because she’s a girl bird who knows what she wants.”

Come on out to the Batavia Fine Arts Center and enjoy our production of Seussical Junior! Join us as we discover the Whos, a tiny people who live on the tiniest planet in the sky. Meet up with the Wickersham Brothers, who are up to no good. And of course, visit with The Cat in The Hat and her little kitties, who take us on a wonderful adventure through the whimsical and magical world of Dr. Seuss.
