Officials said they determined that at the time of the crash, Buckner was driving more than 20 miles over the speed limit. Using data and the crash reconstruction map, police were also able to confirm the teenager was using a social media app on his phone.

The Kendall County State's Attorney's Office approved on Dec. 8 two felony counts of reckless homicide and one felony count of aggravated unlawful use of an electronic communication device against Buckner, and a Kendall County judge issued a warrant for the teenager's arrest, officials said.

The judge set the man's bond at $250,000 with 10 percent to apply.
