The resident contacted the sheriff’s office and did not call the number back. The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office phone number had been displayed on the resident’s caller ID, presumably by utilizing a common tactic among scammers called “spoofing,” where through computer software, a specific telephone number will be displayed on the recipient’s caller ID.
The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind citizens that calls regarding “IRS complaints” are never handled by its office and that personal information should never be given out over the phone. Sheriff’s office personnel also will never request money over the phone.
