Scholarships Available Through Oswego Fire Department
The fire department will award two $500 scholarships to students who will graduate high school and pursue a degree in the fall of 2022.
OSWEGO, IL — Students graduating high school who are pursuing a degree in higher education this fall are eligible to receive a $500 scholarship from the Oswego Fire Protection District.
Two "outstanding seniors" who are residents of the Oswego Fire Protection District will be chosen to receive $500 scholarships "in honor of the dedicated leadership and service of all members of our fire district both past & present," officials said in a news release Wednesday.
The fire district awards two scholarships each year, and the 2022 application period is open until 3 p.m. April 22. The scholarships are meant for students to use at an institution of higher learning.

Officials said the application process is simple, but here are a few things to keep in mind when applying, according to scholarship guidelines:
- Preference is given to applications pursuing a degree in fire science or a related field. Students pursuing public safety will also be given preference, but it's weighed less than the fire science field.
- Students can only receive this scholarship once.
- Scholarships awarded are contingent on the availability of qualified applicants.
- Applicants who don't include a transcript and a one-page essay won't be considered.
To pick up an application, people interested can visit Oswego Fire Station #1 at 3511 Woolley Road in Oswego. Applications and additional guidelines can be found on the fire district's website.
