School District 308 Boundary Advisory Committee Conducts Final Meeting

Community Unit School District 308's Boundary Advisory Committee held its fifth and final meeting on Thursday, November 10, 2016.

Oswego, Ill. (November 15, 2016) — Community Unit School District 308’s Boundary Advisory Committee held its fifth and final meeting on Thursday, November 10, 2016.

The 37-member Boundary Advisory Committee, tasked with redrawing School District 308’s school boundaries, consisted of two board chairs—Lauri Doyle and Dr. Michael McDowell—10 administrators, and 25 community members. The Boundary Advisory Committee has met five times since August 2016 to analyze data and provide feedback used to create boundary map drafts. In addition, two public forums were also held to get public feedback on the map drafts.

During the meeting, committee members reviewed updated boundary maps before discussing boundary draft scenarios and recommendations. Committee members were given time to share their thoughts and comments they received from the community about the process.

Final determinations and recommendations by the Boundary Advisory Committee to the Board of Education will be shared at the November 28 Board of Education meeting. The BOE is anticipated to vote on boundary recommendations at its December 12 meeting. After the holidays, building administration will begin planning for onboarding those students and staff affected in the process.

Earlier this year, the Board of Education voted on its top criteria for determining the new school boundaries moving forward. The top four criteria were:

1. Projected enrollment and Building utilization
2. Fiscal considerations related to operations
3. Duration of boundaries
4. Transportation
