Teens Flee From Stolen Minivan After Crashing into SUV in Oswego: Police

The teens have both received felony charges.

OSWEGO, IL — Two teens fled from a stolen minivan after it crashed into a small SUV Tuesday morning in Oswego, injuring a female driver.

The crash occurred at around 7:10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 15 at Route 30 and Harvey Road when a minivan traveling northbound on Harvey Road crashed head on into a small SUV that was southbound on Route 30, according to Oswego Police Public Information Officer Cathy Nevara. The driver of the SUV, a 54-year-old woman from Aurora, was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Witnesses at the scene described two males, approximately 16 to 18 years old and wearing hoodies and dark jeans, who allegedly fled the scene on foot after exiting a minivan that had been reported stolen earlier Tuesday morning. The males were reportedly last seen heading northeast towards Lincoln Station subdivision. Oswego police began a search for the males, employing the assistance of the Aurora Police Canine Unit. A canine search led officers north into Aurora and police located two males matching witness descriptions approximately three miles north of the crash site. The males, both 17 years old, were taken into custody at approximately 9:45 a.m., and transported to the Oswego Police Department.

Felony charges were approved by the Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office for both teens for:

• Leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury

• Possession of a stolen motor vehicle

Additionally, the male from Aurora was cited with no valid driver’s license, failure to yield and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Both males were processed at the Oswego Police Department and transported to the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center pending court proceedings.
