OSWEGO, IL — Deciding where to live isn't always an easy decision, but one community in Kendall County has received top rankings from Niche.

In Kendall County, Oswego was named the No. 1 best place to live by data-driven platform Niche.

Oswego offers residents a "sparse suburban feel," has highly rated public schools and is home to residents with moderate political views, according to Niche.

"This recognition reflects what residents already know, Oswego is a community built on connection, pride and involvement," village officials wrote last week on Facebook. "From engaged neighbors to dedicated local organizations, it's the people who make our village a great place to call home. Thank you to everyone who helps make Oswego stand out."

After Oswego, Niche said the best places to live in Kendall County — from second to fifth places — are Yorkville, Montgomery, Boulder Hill and Plano.

Now in its 12th year, Niche's 2026 Best Places to Live ranking helps everyone from young people just starting their careers or families to retirees decide where they want to live. The report analyzes places of various sizes. The ranking includes 230 cities and 18,000 towns, suburbs and neighborhoods.

Among states overall, Illinois ranks in eighth place. The state’s highest marks were in five categories: outdoor activities, best city to live, best place to raise a family, lowest cost of living and most diverse.

Clarendon Hills ranked No. 1 in the country for the best place to raise a family, while Naperville was named the best city in America for the third consecutive year.

The rankings are based on a wide range of public data sources, including the U.S. Census Bureau, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, combined with millions of resident reviews.
