Trick-Or-Treating Hours Announced For Halloween In Oswego

This month, the village is also giving away a free pumpkin to residents Oct. 17.

OSWEGO, IL — Spooky season, also known as October, has officially begun. Ahead of Halloween, Oswego village staff told Patch trick-or-treating hours this year will take place from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

As Oswegoans prepare costume ideas and plans for Halloween, they can keep the village's trick-or-treating time frame in mind. The hours reverted back to what was in place in past years — aside from 2020 — in Oswego.

Last Halloween, amid a heightened sense of precaution due to the fast-spreading COVID-19 pandemic, village staff decided to expand trick-or-treating hours to 2:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Residents were also encouraged to do one-way trick-or-treating by leaving out wrapped candy on a table near the sidewalk for kids to grab and go.

This year, village officials said they're going to monitor the situation and see what the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends going forward.

"We follow CDC mandates, so right now for an outdoor trick or treating event, there are no mandates," Julie Hoffman, the village's community engagement coordinator, told Patch. "We may make some recommendations as [Halloween] comes closer, but we're probably going to wait that out and see the CDC's trend between now and then."

The village is also giving away 500 free pumpkins to residents Oct. 17 at Venue 1012, located at 1012 Station Drive. Children are encouraged to go dressed in costumes, and they can take pictures with fall-themed scenery.

To get their pumpkins — one per child — residents should come prepared to show their ID with proof of address at the event, which will be held from 10 a.m. to noon.
