TW Always Cares Makes Its Mark on the Community

New club at the Wheatlands focuses on service projects

Oswego, Ill. (Dec. 16, 2015) - The Wheatlands Elementary School is excited to offer a new club to our school “TW Always Cares.” The club is sponsored by Chris McNanna and Joanne Trakszelis. The goal of “TW Always Cares” is to provide a great way for kids to work together to do meaningful hands-on service projects for local families in need, have fun, get involved in their communities, and make their mark on the world. An important part of our club is to teach empathy by the ways we show caring, kindness, and compassion to people in our lives. We don’t make children appreciate what they have when we simply enable them to be receivers of kindness. We escalate their feelings of happiness, improve their well-being, reduce bullying, enrich their friendships, and build peace by teaching them to be givers of kindness.

So far our club has collected 29 boxes of candy and sent them to the soldiers overseas, made placemats for a senior living center, made and sent Christmas ornaments to local hospitals (Copley, Mercy, Edwards, Shriners Hospitals for Children in Chicago). We have organized an Angel Tree with the help of the Salvation Army to help get new toys and clothing into the hands of needy children during the holiday season.

Some upcoming service projects we have planned include going to Feed My Starving Children on Jan. 13, to help package food, collect items for the Hesed House, Kendall County Animal Shelter, and go to a local nursing home to read and put on skits for the residents.

We are selling bracelets, t-shirts and bookmarks that the students made to help fund our club. If you are interested in purchasing any of the items please contact The Wheatlands.

The students are enjoying themselves and we see the smiles on their faces when they are making the gifts or donations to the families.
