Village Requiring All Commerical and Residential Alarm Systems to be Registered
There is no cost for residential alarm registration and no additional costs to businesses.

Alarm systems in commercial and residential buildings are required to be registered with the Village. There is no charge for this registration. Village ordinance imposes a fine for false alarms that require the Police response as explained below.
Commercial/Business Alarm Registration:
The registration for commercial alarms is included as a part of the Business Registration process, it requires no additional cost to the business, and must be renewed annually, by December 31st.
Each business owner is allowed one (1) false alarm per rolling six (6) month period. The first false alarm will not be charged; it will be considered a warning. The second call, in that rolling six (6) month period, will be considered a Class I violation with the first offense fine of $55.00.
The Police Department shall notify the registrant of each instance when a false alarm was recorded. Additional false alarms will result in the imposition of charges.
Registration of Residential Alarm Systems:
Registration of residential alarm systems is required by Village Code. There is no charge for this registration and is required to be renewed annually, by December 31st.
The application requests information regarding the alarm company, their contact information and the name of persons that can be contacted in case of an emergency.
Beginning thirty (30) days after the date the alarm system is installed and placed in service, the first false alarm will be considered a warning. The second false alarm, in any rolling six (6) month period at a residential or non-business location, will be considered a Class I violation with the first offense fine of $55.00. The Police Department shall notify the registrant of each instance when a false alarm was recorded.
Additional false alarms will result in the imposition of charges. Registrations issued to a residence need not be displayed, but must be made available upon request of any Village of Oswego Police Officer.
