Volunteers Urgently Needed For Homeless Program

If they don't get enough volunteers, the area's homeless may be in trouble.

KENDALL COUNTY, IL — The Kendall County Public Action to Deliver Shelter, or PADS, needs about 100 more volunteers in less than a month. Kendall County Now reported that they will be unable to begin their eighth season of providing overnight housing and meals to the area's homeless unless they get the volunteers.

Last night, PADS held a volunteer training session at 6:30 at the Yorkville Congregational United Church of Christ. They went over operations of the non-profit and gave new volunteers the run-down on how to address health issues and, of course, politeness to the homeless guests of shelters.

Guests at the shelters get a hot dinner, breakfast, a packaged lunch to go and a safe, warm place to sleep. They also work to help get the homeless back on their feet, providing assistance with social services and employment.

Kendall County has seven PADS centers, one of which is open each night of the week. Here's the list as reported by Kendall County Now:

  • Sundays: Cross Lutheran Church, 8609 Route 47, Yorkville
  • Mondays: Yorkville Congregational United Church of Christ, 409 Center Parkway, Yorkville
  • Tuesdays: Harvest New Beginnings Church, 5315 Douglas Road, Oswego
  • Wednesdays: Parkview Christian Academy, upper campus, 202 E. Countryside Parkway, Yorkville
  • Thursdays: Trinity United Methodist Church, 2505 Boomer Lane, Yorkville
  • Fridays: Church of the Good Shepherd, 5 W. Washington St., Oswego
  • Saturdays: St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 53 Fernwood Road, Montgomery
