When was the last time you saw God at work in Oswego?

Have you ever seen God at work? I have. I often get to. I look forward to watching him continue. You see, I am a pastor in Oswego. I have unique vantage point. I hear and watch people who have realized that life doesn’t always go as planned. A friend dies unexpectedly, a good person ends up ravaged by disease, a hard working family loses their house, an addiction splits the family down the center. However in each case, God’s Spirit, when invited in, transforms tragedy into an inspiring time of learning and refining.

While I have seen God work in all these situations, it’s never a quick process. It’s never simple. It’s sometimes requires more pain, acceptance and more often than not, assistance from a community of folks.

The community of folks is the key. When we come together as a community to tackle the issues of our friends and neighbors, we all get a front row seat to the most inspiring moments of transformation. The kind of personal change that leaves even the hardest of hearts saying, “Wow” and “How do we do more of that?”

It’s the reason for this blog today. The outpost for God that I’m associated with has been running a recovery night for the last three years. It’s a simple concept: provide space for independent groups who adhere to the anonymous nature of the people who attend. We house an Overeaters, Al-Anon, NAMI and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings every Thursday night at 7pm. These are amazing groups. God is at work anonymously in each of them. As a community of faith, we want to facilitate more of this because it changes the world. So, if you are, or someone you know is, a part of an anonymous group that is not listed above, we may have a room for your group on Thursday nights. Please send me an email, make a comment on the blog or call me at the church.
