3 Easy Ways to Save Paper & Ink

Attention Palatine residents, want to know a few easy ways to help yourself and family cut down on printing costs?

These are guaranteed to help you be more environmentally friendly.  And just time in before school starts and that printer begins working over-time.

1) Decrease by Expanding.  One of the easiest ways to save paper is changing the default margins in popular word processing software such as Microsoft Word. In Word, you can easily set the margins to “Narrow”.  More often than not, you will save paper, especially on lengthy documents.  The same format can be applied in Excel.  See here for screenshots: bit.ly/m8UbCQ

2) Condense Content. A little known secret is Word’s Shrink One Page feature.  It’s a great way to automatically remove those mostly blank pages.  In the 2007 version, it’s found by going to Print Preview.  In 2010 & 2013 versions, you will need to enable it.  See here for screenshots: bit.ly/X1mzjN

3) Grey is Good. Now that you’ve become a paper-saving pro, let’s turn it up a notch.  Many printers come with built-in settings to convert documents into greyscale format.  Alternatively, you can use “draft” settings to use less ink.

Fun fact: Did you know that a 100-page printed document (12-point font, 1.25" left and right and 1" top and bottom margins, double-spaced, simplex) can be reduced to 15 pages (with 10-point font, .75" left, right, top, and bottom margins, single spacing, and duplex printing)?

Remember to print responsibly folks!
