$3M Bail Set For Palatine Man Who Sexually Abused Girl For 3 Years: Prosecutors

Jose Guerrero-Martinez, 36, also is accused of hitting the girl with a ruler if she didn't listen to him, according to Cook Co. prosecutors.

PALATINE, IL — A Palatine man is being held on $3 million bail after he was accused of sexually assaulting over a three-year period, starting when she was 10. Jose Guerrero-Martinez, 36, was charged Thursday with predatory criminal sexual assault, and if convicted, he could be sentenced up to 30 years, the Daily Herald reports.

According to prosecutors, the sexual abuse of the victim by Guerrero-Martinez started in 2014 when she was 10 years old, the report stated. Over the three years, Guerrero-Martinez would allegedly hit the victim with a ruler and threaten her for not following his orders, the report added. Prosecutors also accuse him of showing the girl pornography during that time, the Herald reports.

On April 27, Guerrero-Martinez allegedly tried to assault the victim, who is now 14, the report stated. She rejected his advances, however, and told her mother and aunt, the report added.

Guerrero-Martinez's next court date is June 1.
