PALATINE, IL — A fire Thursday evening damaged three units in a Palatine townhome building, but no residents or firefighters were injured, according to the Palatine Fire Department.
Firefighters were called to 2165 N. Ginger Circle at about 6:10 p.m. after receiving a report of smoke coming from the roof.
The first Palatine fire unit arrived six minutes later and reported smoke and flames showing from the roof of the two-story townhome building, prompting officials to upgrade the call to a working fire response.
Crews located the fire in the attic above a second-floor unit, according to the department.
Firefighters pulled down portions of the ceiling to reach and extinguish the flames before ventilating the building to clear smoke.
The fire was declared under control at 6:25 p.m.
Fire damage was confined to the attic of one second-floor unit, while smoke and water damage affected two additional units, according to the department.
Firefighters also searched the building to make sure no residents were trapped and performed overhaul operations to check for hidden fire.
No civilians or firefighters were injured.
The cause remains under investigation, and a damage estimate was not immediately available.
Twenty-seven firefighters responded to the incident, staffing four engines, one ladder truck, one rescue squad and three ambulances, along with five command officers.
The Lake Zurich Fire Protection District, Barrington Fire Department and Rolling Meadows Fire Department provided personnel and equipment through mutual or automatic aid agreements.
Palatine police also assisted with traffic and crowd control.
The Palatine Fire Department reminded residents to maintain working smoke alarms in homes, apartments, townhomes and condominiums.
