Retired State Employee Joe Tracy Runs For Illinois House in the 54th District
Palatine, IL — Joseph M. Tracy, a Palatine resident since 1992 and a retired State of Illinois employee, is
the Republican candidate for state representative in the 54th District on the November 3 ballot.
"I spent thirty years working for the State of Illinois, so I know where the money goes and I know where it
gets wasted," Tracy said. "The budget that took effect on July 1 is the largest this state has ever passed, and
the Governor's own budget office says it carries $789 million in new taxes and fees. Families here are asked
to pay more every year for a government that does not get any better at its job. That is what I am running to
change."
Tracy's working life spans more than four decades across the private, nonprofit and government sectors. He
began at Jewel Foods, served as an assistant administrator in an adult health services organization, and spent
thirty years with the State of Illinois in both union and non-union roles before retiring.
Born and raised in Chicago, he has lived in Palatine since 1992. He and his wife raised four children here, all
of whom graduated from local District 15 and District 211 schools.
"Accountability is not a slogan," Tracy said. "It is somebody actually reading the line items, and I have spent
a career doing it."
The 54th District lies entirely within Cook County and includes parts of Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove,
Mount Prospect, Palatine, Prospect Heights and Wheeling. The general election is Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
