Palatine Fire Department Open House To Feature K-9, Live Fire Demonstrations

PALATINE, IL — The Palatine Fire Department will open its doors to the community Saturday, Oct. 3, for an annual event featuring demonstrations, emergency vehicles and family activities.

The Open House will run from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fire Station 84, 220 W. Illinois Ave.

Planned activities include a fire and rescue vehicle showcase, displays of specialty team equipment, children's activities and information about fire safety.

The department will also host several demonstrations throughout the morning and early afternoon, including hazardous materials, dive equipment, technical rescue, vehicle extrication, a Palatine Police K-9 demonstration and a live fire/sprinkler demonstration.

A fire investigation demonstration is scheduled to follow the live fire presentation.

The tentative schedule includes:

• Vehicle and equipment demonstrations, 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
• Hazardous materials demonstration, 10:45 a.m.
• Dive equipment demonstration, 11 a.m.
• Technical rescue demonstration, 11:15 a.m.
• Vehicle extrication demonstration, 11:30 a.m.
• Palatine Police K-9 demonstration, noon
• Live fire/sprinkler demonstration, 12:15 p.m.
• Fire investigation demonstration, immediately following the live fire demonstration

Participating organizations include the Palatine Fire Prevention Division, Palatine Police Department, Palatine Park District, Palatine Township, Palatine Lions Club, Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County, Northwest Central Dispatch System and Battalion Board-Up.

This year's Open House will be held entirely outdoors, and attendees are encouraged to dress for the weather.
