PALATINE, IL — A suspect is in custody after police said a report of a male physically assaulting a female victim led to a chase that ended in a crash, according to Palatine police.
According to police, officers responded to the 1500 block of North Winslowe Drive at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday after receiving the report. According to the initial report, the suspect and victim left the area in a black Nissan Sentra.
About 15 minutes later, police received a second call reporting a disturbance in the 400 block of East Palatine Road.
Police said information, including surveillance video, showed that the female got out of the vehicle and ran inside a convenience store, where she asked for help. The male suspect followed her into the store, grabbed her and forced her back into the Sentra before fleeing, according to police.
Palatine police said they shared information on the vehicle with other surrounding law enforcement agencies. The car was later found in Chicago, where a pursuit involving other agencies began, ending with a crash in the 700 block of West Garfield Boulevard in Chicago, police said.
The male suspect was taken into custody, and police said the female was found inside the vehicle.
Palatine police said detectives are investigating and coordinating with Chicago police and the Cook County State's Attorney's Office.
