More than 50 eight- and nine-year-old boys contributed $10 in canned food to the Palatine Township Food Pantry for an opportunity to participate in the first ever PBA/PYBS Travel Baseball Clinic on June 17, 2012. The effort raised approximately $500 in food and another $200 in cash donations.
The clinic was run by the Palatine Baseball Association 14U Palatine Travel team members who instructed the younger boys on pitching, fielding and hitting during four 25-minute sessions. The participants were members of the Palatine
Youth Baseball & Softball.
“The younger boys learned a lot because they were really istening to the older boys,” said Brian Roy, coach of the Palatine Red 14U Travel Team. “The older players also benefited from the event,” added Roy. “They had an opportunity to demonstrate their leadership skills and gained experience while donating their time and talent to help the community.”

The event was also a win for the Palatine Township Food Pantry because donations can run low in the summer months. “Most of the food in the Pantry comes from donations by individuals and food drives sponsored by schools, churches, civic groups and businesses,” said Linda Fleming, Palatine Township Supervisor. “We appreciate the efforts of PBA/PYBS to support us with this successful event.”
