Authorities Find Marijuana Grow Operation in Hidden Room in Palatine Home: Police

A large mirror covered a door to the hidden grow room located off of the bathroom in the Palatine residence, police said.

A 34-year-old Palatine man accused of operating a marijuana grow operation in a hidden room in his home now faces felony drug charges.

Paul Manock, of 505 S. Warren Ave., turned himself into police on Tuesday following a search of his home on Aug. 15. During the search, police said they discovered the grow operation in a room off of the bathroom on the second floor of the Warren Avenue residence. The room was accessible through a disguised door, which appeared to be a large mirror, according to a Palatine Police Department press release.

Police found 39 marijuana plants in the room and a jar containing more marijuana. Police obtained a search warrant for a locked plastic case in the room and two locked metal cabinets, according to the news release. In the case and cabinets, police said they found another 249 grams of plant material, which tested positive for marijuana, as well as a digital scale and bags commonly used to package cannabis to be sold.

Manock is charged with one felony count of unlawful production of marijuana sativa plants and one count of felony possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver.

Mancok appeared for a hearing Wednesday in Rolling Meadows where his bond was set at $40,000. He needs to pay 10 percent to be released.

He is next expected in court on Sept. 10.
