In addition to being named N4C Second Team All-Conference, Harper College men’s basketball player Davion Benton (Chicago, Ill. /Alcott College Prep) was voted NJCAA Region IV Second Team All-Region.
The first-year player averaged a double-double of 13.7 points per game and 10.9 rebounds per game in 30 games this past season.

“His game evolved on a daily basis throughout the year. He’s obviously athletic, but his basketball IQ sharpened as the year went on, and you could see the game slowing down for him,” said Harper head coach Justin Welke.”
Benton’s play did not go unnoticed during the 2014-15 season, as he was named the Region IV Player of the Week in three consecutive weeks (Jan. 12, Jan. 20, Jan. 26). He was also named the Harper College Athlete of the Week on Feb. 20.

The 6-foot-5 forward started the season off on the right foot with a monster 24-point, 18-rebound game at Olive-Harvey College on Nov. 1. Benton also had a stretch of 15 straight games with 10 or more points (Dec. 18-Feb. 18).
“He always gave maximum effort and never gave up no matter what,” Welke said. “I can’t wait to see how much he improves over the summer and what he will look like when the season starts next year. He has the potential and will be given the opportunity to absolutely dominate the conference and the region.”
