Board of Library Trustees Proclaims Friends of Libraries Week: October 16 - 22, 2016

Palatine Public Library District Board of Library Trustees proclaims October 16 – 22, 2016, as Friends of Libraries Week in Palatine, IL.

The Palatine Public Library District Board of Library Trustees has proclaimed the week of October 16 – 22, 2016, as Friends of Libraries Week in Palatine, IL. The Board encourages the community to join the Friends of the Palatine Library, and thank them for all they do to support our Library and community.

The Proclamation was presented by Library Board President Karen Reshkin to Mark Hamlen, Board President of the Friends, on Wednesday, October 13, 2016, at the regular meeting of the Library Board. “The Friends continue to be an integral part of the Library’s success, and a wonderful group of dedicated library advocates. We’re grateful for their support, and applaud this much deserved recognition,” said Anthony Auston, Library Director.

The Friends of the Palatine Library were established in 1950, and have raised over $500,000 for the Library since 2004. Each year, the Friends sponsor the Library’s popular Summer Reading program by providing funds for the grand prize t-shirts and tote bags, and the Winter Reading program’s sign-up gifts. They have also provided funds for additional programs and events, furnishings, collections, and projects otherwise outside the scope of the Library’s general operating budget.
