Busse Woods, Other Forest Preserves Close Parking Lots

The Cook County Forest Preserve District has closed the parking lots of six of popular preserves due to overcrowding.

COOK COUNTY, IL — Parking lots at six popular Cook County Forest Preserve sites will be closed this weekend due to consistent issues with people not practicing social distancing or abiding by public health guidelines in light of concerns over the spread of the new coronavirus, forest preserve officials said Friday. Closing the parking lots is meant to limit the number of visitors at Busse Woods in Elk Grove Village, Maple Lake and Saganashkee Slough in Palos Preserves near Willow Springs, Catherine Chevalier Woods and LaBagh Woods in Chicago and Bunker Hill in Niles.

The preserves are still open to visitors but the parking lots will be closed on weekends through at least May 30.

Citations will be issued to anyone showing a "willful disregard for public health and safety rules in regards to social distancing, large gatherings and using clearly closed restrooms.
