Chartier Selected as Female Athlete of the Year

Harper volleyball player Meghan Chartier (Inverness, Ill./Buffalo Grove) had an outstanding 2014 season in her first year with the Hawks. All of her accomplishments have led her to being selected as the 2014-15 Harper College Female Athlete of the Year.

In the 2014 season, Chartier earned First Team All-Conference, All-Region, and Region IV All-Tournament Team accolades. The libero was also named to the All-Tournament Team at every tournament that had the award (College of DuPage Invitational, Harper College Invitational, Harper College Invite, Lincoln Land Invitational).

She also led the nation in digs with 850, breaking a Harper all-time single-season digs record. Chartier was also named the NJCAA Division III National Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 6-12.

“Congratulations to Meghan! This award is only given to very deserving student-athletes,” said Harper head volleyball coach Bob Vilsoet. “I’m honored it is a volleyball player. The athletic director has a lot of excellent student-athletes at this school to choose from.”

Chartier also earned N4C Academic All-Conference honors for her grades. In addition to her athletic and academic success, the Buffalo Grove High School grad pays it forward off the court. Chartier has been coaching volleyball since she was 16, coaching for the Top Flight Volleyball Club, EVP Tour, and Palatine Park District. She also coaches camps and private lessons.

Chartier’s father John is in the military, and Meghan has gone around to local businesses and people, asking them to donate items or gift cards for a raffle. The raffle money was then donated to the Wounded Warrior Project, whose mission is “To foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nation’s history”.
